Help Homeboy Industries

I received an e-mail from Gil Garcetti today about Homeboy Industries--a subject that Cindy Bendat has covered beautifully in her images...passing this along:

Please take a quick look at Tim Rutten’s article in today’s LA Times (attached). I’m guessing that few Californians that we personally know are yet feeling the affect of the state’s disastrous financial situation. But people in most desperate need are certainly feeling it. Father Greg Boyle and his Homeboy Industries organization is already feeling the absence of government and philanthropic grants that help him turn the lives of many former gang members into law-abiding and productive community members. He and those who are trying to turn their lives around deserve our support.

Rutten’s article calls for us to forgo the commercial washing of our car and send that $10 to Homeboy Industries. Your $10 may be a small gesture, but if enough people do this it will send a larger message to both the political communities who make budget decisions and to the former gang members who are trying to turn their lives around, that we do care about organizations such as Homeboy Industries.

Please join me today in sending the message that we do care. Send your $10 on-line, or to Homeboy Industries, 130 W. Bruno St., L.A. 90012. I think this gesture will bring a smile to your face. We should always be looking for reasons to smile. This is a great one!
